Week 5 Term 3

Student Councillors

Congratulations to Cody Elder and Fearne Van Beek, who are our new Student Councillors.  They will be representing our class until the end of the year.  They are both very popular with their peers and I am sure they will do an excellent job.  They have already been to their first Councillor Meeting and have done a fantastic job taking notes and presenting the decisions of the meeting to the class.

Student Fete

On 27^th August our school is having a Student Fete.  Our class has decided to sell ice-creams.   
Our stall is called “Ice-cream Craziness”.  Our slogan is “Wattle Grove’s best Ice-cream Shop.”  We are probably going to sell the ice creams for $1.00 for a single and $1.50 for a double.

We all wrote letters a couple of weeks ago, to ice-cream manufacturers and shops that sell ice-cream.  On Friday afternoon, we got a message that Coles in Kalamunda had received a letter from Ashley and they would like to donate a $25 voucher.  We were all thrilled and we hope that some more companies will respond to us.

 

As we have not received any more responses from the companies we have written to, we need to go to Plan B, which is to ask for donations of $2 to $5 from our Mums and Dads.  This will enable Mrs Harney to get what we need on Wednesday Afternoon

This afternoon we made all our posters to put up around the school.

Lap-a-thon

On Friday 7^th August we all participated in the school a Lap-a-thon, which was held on the school oval.  We all ran as many laps as we could, with many of us running over 30 laps!  It was very hot!  When we finished the lap-a-thon, we had an icy pole and that made us nice and cool. 

 
 

ICAS Tests

On Tuesday in Weeks 2 and 4 we had the ICAS tests in our classroom.  There was an English test and a Maths test.  There were hard questions in both of the tests.  The questions were in a book, with an answer sheet.  We used 2B pencils, because they rub out easier, and we had to colour in little circles, a, b, c or d.  We had to be careful to make sure that we did not put two answers on one line.  We had a great time doing the test and most people finished all the questions. 

Fitness

Each day during fitness we are practising for the Sports Carnival.  Mrs Harney has organised a rotation so that all the Year 2 classes are practising a different event each day.  We do:  Wheel Relay, Circle Ball, Tunnel Ball, Flag Race and Relays.  On Friday afternoon, we had a practise with all the Year 2’s.  We are really looking forward to the Sport’s Carnival.

Italian

In Italian, we have been drawing and writing about our favourite food and treats.  We have also read and learnt about “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”.  We drew our favourite part and are going to make a book for the class.

Senora told us about Italian Day.  It is on Sunday 20^th September at Barbagallo Race Track from 9am to 5pm.  Entry for kids is free but adults cost $5.00.  There will be track racing, vehicles on display, Italian food, drinks and coffee.

Art

      

We have been doing art with chalk pastels and charcoal. Firstly we were able to make a free choice drawing.  After that, we created birds in colour or black and white.  If you would like to see some of our amazing art, come into our classroom!

 

Maths

We have been doing lots of Mental Maths during the last few weeks.  This is one time when it is really important that we know out quick addition and subtraction facts.  It is quite hard and sometimes we get a bit confused and overcome, but we are trying hard.  Mrs Harney does lots of talking about how she is working out the sums and we need to do the same, so that we can show Mrs Harney that we understand what we are doing.  Mrs Harney has now started teaching us about money.  We love doing maths with money!  Mums and Dads can help us by letting us count up how much money you have in your purse/wallet.  Please remind us to always start with the largest notes and work down to the smallest coins.

Music

In Music we learnt how to keep the rhythm and the beat.  We sang to the beat and clapped the beat.  We also learnt “ti-ti taa taa za.  We wing a lot of different songs.  Sometimes, we play fun games with Mrs Robeson.  We go to music every Thursday.  We all love music a lot!
