65 Roses
Day
29th May is 65 roses day for Cystic Fibrosis. On last Friday the children went to every class in the school and spoke to them about what is happening during the week. We are having:- A raffle
- merchandise to sell (torch key chains, rose hair ties, hand sanitizer, rose pins, plastic wrist bands, mints, pens and many more things)
- A 'Go Red Day' on 29th May, where the children and teachers wear as much red as possible to school and bring a gold coin donation.
Mothers Day
The children had a great deal of fun making their mum a special gift and card. We went to Mr Petch's class and they did their planning with their buddies. A great deal of thought and care went into both. The class would like to thank Mr Taylor who assisted in the creation of the pots as well as Mr O'Connell and Mrs Wisby who helped with the planting. I hope you all had a wonderful day. During the creation of the pots my camera was turned over to the children, who had a wonderful time taking the photos. Her are some of those photos. The school ANZAC ceremony was, once again, very moving and solemn occasion. The children all sat and behaved beautifully. The speakers were excellent and the choir was fantastic. I would like to thank Jodie Morling, Charmaine Elder and Paul Henshall, who gave up their time to assist me to organise the uniforms for the 106 members of the choir. Without their assistance, the choir would not have looked so wonderful. I would also like to thank Jodie Morling and Charmaine Elder who organised the return of all the uniforms and renamed, hung and/or folded them ready for use at the next choir function.
Maths
The children have been working very hard to understand all the concepts that we have covered in Maths. They are all doing a great job. The concept that is proving to be the most difficult is word problems. They will be having word problems for homework each week for the rest of the term. I am taking the word problems from he Prime books, but I am changing the names and amounts. It is often hard for them to understand whether they should add or subtract. Please let them explain to you what they have done and why, as this will clarify for them how to work out the problems.
Reading
We have started up a special reading programme in our class. This was done to encourage the children to become absorbed with chapter books so that they can infer, locate information, predict, comprehend, remember a longer story and above all, discover the joy of reading. Once they have read a book, the children need to complete a book review, so that they can receive the points that are allocated to each book. The children have been enjoying this programme immensely and the first round of certificates will be given out very soon.
Parent
Reading
Thank you to the parents who come each week to listen to the children read. We are lucky enough that every child gets to read for 5 to 10 minutes each week. If you discover, at any time, that you would be able to spare some time to assist with this fantastic programme, please contact the office.
